“Stop naming things after people, living or dead. No schools. No streets. No courthouses. No fountains. Just quit it.” https://fritinancy.substack.com/p/stop-naming-buildings-and-streets
Stop naming buildings (and streets, and parks, and ships, and mountains) after people

Eventually, inevitably, someone will decide that your well-meaning gesture was a terrible error.

If it is believed the individual embodies a virtue to be celebrated, maybe use the name of the virtue. Courage Boulevard, the Avenue of Hope will never be tainted by finding out about Violent Sexist Corner, or Nazi Alley hidden away from the bright lights of Reputation Street.
People are nuanced, and should be acknowledged and remembered as such. A name on a wall or signpost does not allow this, either glossing over or diminishing humanity.
