People on /r/AskSF: should l live in this <totally normal neighborhood>

People responding: anything that’s not on the west side is super unsafe, beware

LOL

Just say you’re scared of ‘diversity’ and / or you’re offended by having to wait a few minutes for parking

@skinnylatte there seems (seemed) to be an obsession with safety on reddit. People would ask about my city and my university campus (as safe as can be) like setting foot in them would get you assaulted right away.
@nxskok conservative people truly believe this about cities and places with people generally. I think it’s tightly coded to their world view (the world at large is unsafe, everyone is out to get me).
@skinnylatte like asking if you should live in <anywhere in winnipeg> lol
@skinnylatte When Trump sent the National Guard to DC, a group of us who live here were complaining about it, when an acquaintance piped up and said she ALWAYS felt that DC was so unsafe that she hasn't left her (extremely) wealthy (extremely) white suburb in 20 years. We all just blinked at her and slowly backed away.
@APBBlue She lives in north Potomac 🤦‍♂️
@skinnylatte people on reddit have no idea what safety means. What they think it means is "Did i see a brown person there that one time i visited from idaho, a visit during which i never lowered the windows off my car until i was safely back on the eastern side of the sierras?"
