The question is not whether you can create software using LLMs - you can (most software is just boring CRUD shit).
But you do pay a hefty price: In lowering quality (security issues, less maintainable), in skill decay in the people "guiding" the stochastic parrots, etc.

It's not "can 'AI's create software" but "are we willing to accept worse software running more and more of our lives?"

@tante @Npars01 The answer to that question is “yes” for many executives and shareholders. It’s a balancing act. They know consumers will accept lower quality products up until the experience is poor enough that it outweighs the switching costs and network effects.
@ramsey @tante @Npars01 This assumes that when the point where people want to switch is reached there is something left to switch to that hasn't been killed by the economic pressure the cheap shit has created until then. If the pressure from cheap, shitty AI slop is held up long enough using venture capital...
@kraftner @tante @Npars01 Small- to medium-sized companies that aren’t chasing VC have a lot of opportunity here, if they can stay focused on producing good software and running sustainable businesses.
@ramsey @tante @Npars01 Unless the VC-backed behemoths actively try to undercut and sabotage those businesses. I have the same hope you seem to have, but it is becoming more and more fragile. 😔
@kraftner @tante @Npars01 I know. I’m up and down. Trying to stay positive today. 🙂
