mastodon, once more i have need of your collective mind, so pls boost if you are willing

this quarter i’m teaching (2 different) English classes on the themes of FISHING & HUMOR

as ever, i am interested in whatever materials you think would be illuminating/charming/intriguing on those topics. we don’t have the scope for full books, but excerpts, chapters, articles, videos, artworks, songs, poems… we are open to nearly anything of topical interest

i so appreciate your input, fedi-folk 💚

@babyalligator
I've read all my free New Yorker stories, but if you can access it, there's a once-lost Hemingway short story that was discovered a few years ago that they published. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/06/08/pursuit-as-happiness
“Pursuit as Happiness,” by Ernest Hemingway

A previously unpublished story by Ernest Hemingway.

thank you! 💚

@babyalligator i consider this so essential:

it’s Liz Bishop, both everyday & profound, & the humor a fine thread in the weave: some of her word choices here, & the role of petroleum products en route to unexpected rapture.

The Fish

I caught a tremendous fish
