Hello #networking people. I'm wondering if it makes sense to buy the more expensive (~70€+) #fiber cleaners/pens, or if the 10€ ones from china do the job comparably well. Any experiences and maybe even comparisons using a fiber scope that someone can share?

context is either
- use for small home networks and occasional lan parties, or
- use in dirty & rough environments at events to connect equipment between stage and FOH.

@thunfisch from my experience I can recommend to spend the extra money on those Fujikura cleaners, especially the "ultra" ones with the broad cleaning tape. Thats a huge difference. With the cheap ones i've had very bad experiences, either not cleaning properly or scratching the surface of a connector.
@thunfisch if its not about patch panels or pluggables, i recommend to use casettes
@chrisd @thunfisch Yea definitly, cheap ones are real hit or miss. We had a bunch at WHY and most of them failed really quickly without people noticing. And require multiple clicks to clean. Cassettes are imo the best but do require some getting used to.
