What do we like for basic, decent quality digital drawing tablets these days? Does Wacom still own that space?

My younger son has unexpectedly manifested an interest in and proclivity for doing digital art things, mostly with #GIMP (ugh) at the moment, but he is hampered by using his mouse.

(Full function in #Linux is necessary.)

@venya I found Krita on an old Microsoft Surface (running Linux) was a pretty good platform. The pen pressure sensitivity was very good. It's a pretty cheap setup and it feels GREAT to install Linux on a Microsoft hardware device ☺️

@johncomic

Oh wow. Tablets have come a really long way since last time I looked.

@venya @johncomic I’ve had a Huion Kamvas for a couple of years; the functionality is good. Some things have burnt into the screen (I thought only old tube TVs had that issue), but it mostly just affects the color, and isn’t enough to throw off its usefulness
@venya FWIW, I'm still using a second-hand A4-sized Wacom tablet that's probably closing on 20 years old. Linux support for their tablets seems to be ongoing, too.
