@Scullridge Ha, I recognise that. It apparently used to be a tape (as in audio cassette) store, according to its signage - although that seems to have been blacked out now.

Been boarded up forever.

@ersatzmaus @Scullridge Ah, I was just about to ask whether that was the former tape shop. For £2 the Land Registry would tell us who owns it!
@TimWardCam @Scullridge Vaguely surprising no-one's done anything with a property so close to the city centre(s) in all this time.
@ersatzmaus @TimWardCam It felt a bit off the beaten track by the time I came across it... and sadly our mad economics presumably make reopening it as any kind of a small shop a difficult challenge
@Scullridge @ersatzmaus Indeed so but it'd be worth lots as part of a house.
@TimWardCam @ersatzmaus Oh yes but it might just be a tiny shop with no space behind or above. Kind of pales in scale and ambition compared to much of the redevelopment being chucked in around the corner towards the station!

@Scullridge @TimWardCam It is but I doubt there'd be any problem getting planning permission to redevelop it.

Even a small house or flat there would sell for £££.

@ersatzmaus @Scullridge I've been out of the loop now but when I held the city council planning portfolio I would have expected there to be no problem at all (given a sensible application).
@TimWardCam @ersatzmaus Yes, I understood any house in or near Cambridge was £££££ but admit I don't even dare look. Some nice stuff down those streets so I'd prefer something discreet and in keeping and not a 6 storey office block and gym ;)

@Scullridge @ersatzmaus There are a number of new(ish) developments in Romsey Town most of which I think are quite reasonable.

Here's an example from Ross Street, old on the left, new on the right.
