@konstantinosd I love that "checkerboard" 3D rendering.
@konstantinosd I played the shit out of that one, despite its rough edges (pun not intended)
This could do with a remake, but I guess that's actually Just Cause 3 ;)
@jupiter How about a remake in an updated but similar graphical style?
@konstantinosd Sad this wasn't (very) available anymore when I got my Amiga.
@thematic Would it be worth hunting (heh) on eBay though?
@konstantinosd Idk, but as clarification, I think it was a decade or two before I even heard of it.
@konstantinosd Ah yes, I played this one on my Atari ST. I loved it so much, this feeling of being able to roam freely and discover stuff. I still remember the feeling when I found that tank and I could actually drive it away!
@sandor Almost magical, wasn't it? Sort of led you to imagine infinite possibilities.
@konstantinosd Absolutely. I think it was pivotal. By the way, the feeling of loneliness was later addressed with the advent of MMOs, whether that's a good thing or not ;-)
@sandor Which, frankly, is up for discussion!
@konstantinosd Remember playing the demo on the ST as a kid. Wondered why the game was so slow to move. Now I look at it and I'm amazed by what they did.
@Lacey Knowing games means really appreciating them :)

@konstantinosd Hunter was a very nice evolution of the 3D open world genre which I believe began 5 years prior with Mercenary…

Attached: 1 image Mercenary is now 40 years old. It was the first open world 3D game where you could enter buildings and drive vehicles (and even leave the planet and go to a space station). Playing it even back then gave me a very liminal space feeling. 👽️ #RetroGaming

@eobet Correct! The Mercenary games were groundbreaking! And very, very good!
