The dry and barren fields of India, the desert areas, the fields struggling to give up a crop, they were transformed into nonstop engines of agriculture by cheap pumps powered by solar panels. As with the Ogallala Aquifer, though, the constant pumping meant that the watershed was retreating, the watershed was sinking, the watershed was shriveling and shivering and gasping.
