2 killed, dozens injured after Air Canada flight hits fire truck on runway at LaGuardia Airport, official says

An Air Canada plane collided with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Sunday, killing the flight’s pilot and copilot, injuring dozens and temporarily shutting down the the New York area’s third-busiest airport, officials said.

The fire truck was responding to a separate emergency—a United Airlines flight reported an unknown odor in cockpit. Air traffic control (ATC) audio indicate the Port Authority fire truck was cleared to cross the active runway. Just before impact, a controller was heard panic shouting for the truck to stop stop stop stop but it was too late. Most of the plane’s nose was severed with the cockpit and pilots inside. 41 people were transported to local hospitals. 😭

@carolleisa Oh, this is horrible. Reminds me too much of the collision of the helicopter and the plane in D.C. Someone fucked up mightily.
