Washy and me

@stux i talk to my cat. my cat talks to me.

admittedly, 75% of the time, neither of us have any idea what the other is saying. but.

@fishidwardrobe @stux Talking to my cat and being able to understand each other (to some extent) was the perfect training for being able to understand a baby that can't talk but wants to communicate.
@delawen @stux right! but: the cat wants to communicate, too

@fishidwardrobe @stux Always! And my cat makes a good job at it, too!

People are usually surprised when I told them that my cat has a specific meow for being stuck somewhere and needing help. Just by the sound of it I know if she is in stress and needs my immediate help, if she's just bored and wants to play, or if she's entertained with something else (like meowing to birds across the window).

@delawen @stux right! and some (not all) of those meows are actually universal, apply to other cats!

you do have to wait for the cat to figure out that they have to use kitten meows to talk to humans, rather than "if i hold my tail just so…"

also, i've known multiple cats who pointed with their chin. easy to miss until you know it's going on.
