#VeronicaMars S2E22, aired May 9, 2006
@HayiWena
We *just* started watching Veronica Mars. Like this evening.
It's really *good*! I remember it having fans but I had no idea.
I mean, yes, it has lamentable problems. The depiction of the Latino gang leader is πŸ™„.
But I was looking for something that isn't copaganda. In VM the County Sheriff is just another bullying jerk of an adversary.
@ohmu Weevil's character gets a little more complex and multi-dimensional as the series goes on.

Ep 3
A trans woman as a real person and she is neither the butt of a joke nor a soap opera plot device.
20 years ago!
@ohmu Yeah, I haven't seen many 🚩🚩 it really holds up. I started watching it while also rewatching Dawson's Creek and I pretty much dropped that cus as woke as Dawson's Creek tried to be there were way too many 🚩🚩.
@HayiWena @ohmu the sequence you shared is great and I too should give it a go
now that I think about it, veronica mars skeezes me out not because I've ever seen it but because of the enormous mass of creepy dudes obsessing over kristen bell. it's like... second-order gross. I never watched it because of the sort of dude who was recommending it. sweatily. every five minutes.

S1E4
A deep dive into the well of high school tropes. "Formal" dances. Very expensive clothes. Lots of drinking. Limos.
With decades of distance, I can see the writers kind of trying to telegraph this is how only a tiny portion of US kids experience high school. <1%. But that <1% is who keep ending up the stars of movies and TV so what is a high school kid supposed to think?

Less a thing but kind of fun: seeing Veronica groan about having to deal with a circular shackle lock - the kind on storage units. Thanks to Alice, I know those are five pin locks and don't tend to have sentinel pins. She posted a video last week opening one in a few seconds.
