I found it interesting in this film how they showcase the self-fulfilling prophecy. Black people were labeled as criminals and thus white people believed all black people to be criminals. Yet, black people believed they were criminals and were wary of other black peoples regardless of their criminal status. It’s interesting to see just how influential the labeling theory is, as it has a ripple effect that can change the trajectory of many people’s lives. #so345
@lifsa19 I agree I find it interesting how in society once you get a label or a stereotype it is hard to break free of that and I think we still see bits and pieces of this in society today. It’s all based on perception and how people see other people because essentially perception is reality or what people believe to be reality. #so345
@lifsa19 I think the film well demonstrates the powers and dangers of labels and how they can affect entire populations. Once black individuals were labeled as criminals and lesser by society, they have struggled for equity and equality. It has been very difficult for the roots of those labels to break, even though I tend to hope our society is more progressive then the society of the 1800's. #so345
