I miss having conversations.
@Traiken any particular types of conversations?
@CCirco Joking around with friends; discussing art and media; telling stories; exploring philosophy; just about anything that's friendly, collaborative, and doesn't have a character limit. Something where I get to expound on ideas and get feedback. Something where I get to make someone laugh and they do the same to me.

@Traiken I feel like there are different ways that the fediverse could accommodate and foster these types of connections/conversations.

I think it is one piece that is missing from what we have all built here.

@CCirco For me, it has more to do with 6 years of isolation and friends drifting away. But the prospect of how to make new friends in this fractured world is definitely the kind of problem social media SHOULD be used for
@Traiken FWIW and for reasons similar to yours I think, I have pretty much only one person left AFK with whom I can mostly do all those things. Actively participating in many fedi initiatives and projects has helped a lot, and I think I’ve made some real friends along the way, with whom I can definitely do most of those things…
@CCirco

@sknob @Traiken I can relate to this as well. I agree with sknob in how being more active in the various projects happening here and within the Fedi orbit have been tremendously helpful.

The one thing I’d like to see is some sort of open drop ins where people can pop on and off, or schedule some virtual meetups to just converse 🙂

@CCirco @sknob Yeah, having that kind of gathering point is what's missing a lot of the time, and what contributes to the fractured feeling of everything. Hell, I can't imagine even watching a TV show at a time that isn't of my choosing, so that kind of "on-demand" model seems very infused in everything, but it leads to everyone being in their own little worlds and disconnected, despite the ability to connect supposedly being better than ever.

@Traiken I'm in the same situation. Rarely see my meatspace friends these days and most conversation I get to enjoy is with the occasional stranger at a cafe.

The RFF, Gravitons and Indie Beat chat have kinda kept me going these past few years.
