Using a T-shirt which I really like the fit, figured out where I needed to take in the edges and bottom. They are labeled as the same size (Large)!! #sewing
Marked the edges with chalk. Note:I probably should have ironed them both first, I had to rip and readadjust the seams because these markings were slightly too tight. #sewing
Quick run through the old sewing machine (not shown), and I had to adjust it a bit, but there we go .. (I prefer a slightly tighter fit on the shirt, but that definitely is a negative as middle-age gut expansion occurs lol.) Before adjustment it was too far into "muscle shirt" territory lol. #sewing

As for the sizing, three remarks you will most likely know but just in case:
1—manufacturers are free to do whatever they want, they aren't bound to any existing size charts.
2—Different knits can have different amounts of stretch, which they'll adjust the pattern dimensions for.
3—Design ease is a thing: Much more in women's clothing but also in menswear.

Yeah, the newer shirt looks like a thicker cotton with a tighter weave. It'll fight back more than a thinner cotton shirt when you try to expand/breathe, and feel more constricting.

jj the Santa Barbarian@ai6yr often in production, the calibrations of the machines slip as the day goes on. The larger version of the shirt could have been made late in the day.
@cookiesinheaven Yeah, I got the story, too, that sometimes labels just get stuck on whatever got produced, and if there's not good Q/C they could pretty much any size!!
