OK, let's try this again. 😅

I want to completely move my ATProto account off of any infrastructure controlled in any way, shape, or form by the Bluesky corporation.

I am told all of my posts and every aspect of my identity can be migrated, because ATProto rocks. Cool beans! Tell me where to migrate everything to, and I'll go there.

HMU!

@jaredwhite I’d recommend migrating your PDS to selfhosted.social by using https://pdsmoover.com/, both of which are operated by https://bsky.app/profile/baileytownsend.dev. Check out the info page for each that’ll tell you a bit more about them, and there are a few other PDS hosting recommendations listed if you want to see some other options. Both services are free of charge.

@jenkins Well that seems neat, but that's not what I'm asking.

I don't want to use any services from Bluesky. I will never log into their site, use their "moderation", anything. I want to be in a completely decentralized corner of the "Atmosphere" that only intersects with Bluesky at the following/follower level.

I keep being told that yes, this is possible. So…?

@jaredwhite Migrating your PDS would do everything you asked in your first post. That keeps your identity, your posts, content, and all of that off of the official BlueSky infrastructure.

If you’re talking about using the BlueSky app view wholly independent from the official site that is a bit more limited. Currently I believe https://blacksky.community/ is the only full fledged fork you can use to still use the BlueSky app view. There was another one called Zepplin that operated for a while, but they shut down as I believe they only did it as a temporary proof of concept.

@jaredwhite I've been trying to figure this out for a while, too.

My understanding is that you can host your own PDS, which is the authoritative source for your identity and your own content. The Bluesky relay scrapes your PDS (somehow?), and Bluesky users see your posts that way.

What's less clear to me is how you would read posts from Bluesky users if you're not using their relay and/or app views. I think that part is still centralized or you have to run your own relay, which is expensive.

Yeah, you need an AppView that indexes the whole network to read posts from others. Right now only Blacksky has an alternative one in production (I *think* it indexes some things lazily, not sure exactly) - you can use it on blacksky.community. But Northsky and Eurosky also want to have one.

@jaredwhite if you want to migrate your bsky followers to mastodon you can use https://bounce.anew.social
I don’t think you can move posts though
Bounce

Bounce lets you migrate from one decentralized social network to another, keep all of your followers, and keep many of the people you follow.

This is only a partial solution, but
- I don't use Bluesky, instead I bridge this account with Bridgy
- I have Firefox URL Replace swapping bsky.app to reddwarf.app to bypass bsky's relays and feeds

This doesn't give me full visibility, and I do miss some accounts I'd like to follow, but I'm not touching Bluesky services
