Just because you are poor, that doesn’t excuse criminal behavior. - Sopuli

While yes, class inequality is real, and yes, poverty is a problem, that doesn’t excuse criminal behavior—especially actions that harm innocent people. Just because you are poor doesn’t mean you should go out and pimp women into prostitution. Just because you are poor doesn’t mean you should sell drugs to kids. Yes, rich people cause problems, and you could argue poverty is their fault, but that doesn’t mean a pimp who rapes and exploits minors isn’t a piece of shit—they are still making a choice. If you break into a house or a mansion and kill someone, you are a piece of shit. If you target a woman or a man from a wealthy family and rob or kill them, you are a piece of shit—and it’s no one’s fault except the criminal. Again, I’m not saying wealth inequality does not exist, but some people ignore the horrible actions of criminals despite them making a choice—especially when those actions affect other poor people in their community.

This is not an unpopular opinion, this is just fact.

There’s absolutely no justification for criminal behavior.

This is not an unpopular opinion

You’d be surprised—I’ve seen people on Twitter and Reddit excuse criminals doing horrible things because they are poor.

And there’s your problem, you follow Twitter and Reddit, not your own mind. Fuck the downvoters, you’re just part of the problem.

Allow me to reiterate my words…

**THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR

See, it gets tricky. If the only reason they’ve fallen into a life of violent crime is to survive in a world that made them poor. You can say the blame falls on society for not looking after people well, before they reach that point of desperation. But you can’t really punish society in that case, People want to see someone be punished when something goes wrong, so we punish the poor person, and cement the ideas that they owe society nothing, and ensure they continue to live outside of the law once they serve their sentences.

There is a reason that the US’ incarceration rate is so ridiculously high, and its not the poor people who are at fault, they are just the who gets punished, and so people stop looking for real justice.
