@daihard I thought it was a comment on the security of the lockup but this is more of a case of how not to design a bike rack and provide enough staples. Wave racks are garbage and whatever means of locking to them anyone manages to execute is fine (except stretching the cable around both middle uprights is not actually attached.) In this case I would get in on the left end with front wheel on the grass or maybe stretch their cable lock a bit and squeeze between them parallel to the rack
@enobacon I agree this is a badly designed and placed cycle rack. However, those two bikes in the pictures could have been locked vertically as you described to leave room for one more bike. My wife and I have locked our bikes (a Tern HSD and a flat-bar bike) here simultaneously and still left an extra spot intact. Using a silver-rated folding lock, I was able to secure both my front wheel and the frame.
