TIL that the oldest postbox in Ireland (and possibly older than any in the UK I believe) is over 160 years old and is in Cork's Kent Station.
"One of the reasons we know it's the oldest is that the slot is on the top instead of the side, an early design flaw because rain was able to get in."
I love that as a country Ireland decided “We’re keeping yer feckin postboxes” and are still using the literal same ones with VR/ER/GR on them but painted green 🍀🇮🇪
