My last issue of The Economist was way back in the early 80s, when the Economist was a rabid right-wing nut house enthusiastically supporting every stupid thing Raygun wanted. They were so nuts I switched to Accounting/Tax which then was notably more rational (40+ years later & I still have trouble believing what I observed then).
We're now living the consequences of Reagan.
Still it's nice to see The Economist has adopted a more thoughtful approach.
I ditched my subscription sometime after Macklethwait retired. A lot of of the writing got increasingly bland and cringe.
I enjoyed the people in the comment section quite a lot, and there were some legendary comment threads, and a handful of very memorable people.
But they managed to make the site unworkable and I didn’t want a paper subscription anymore
