1. Apply a first layer using the lightest tones, filling everything in. In the areas where that light color needs to be more intense, press harder, and in the areas that will later be filled with another color, press more lightly.
2. Apply a second layer with a slightly darker color and do the same, varying the pressure.
3. Use darker colors such as black, brown, dark blue, or dark green.
4. You can finish by adding highlights with a very oily white pastel.
