And in other news, I suppose it's official now, seeing as I just sent off my acceptance. I'm doing my MMus in #windband conducting at the University of Victoria with Dr. Steven Capaldo starting this fall! It’s exciting and daunting, and it’s going to be a great time. #gradstudent #yyj #mmus #concertband #militaryband

@[email protected] congratulations!

I'm hoping to do something similar myself, but it's hard to commit with young children at home 😅

@julian I feel that (and it’s partly why I’m starting grad school in my late 40s, now that my brood is mostly out of the house)

@[email protected] if I may ask... did you apply with a lot of conducting experience?

I've heard that the MMus programs are... selective about applicants whose only podium time is a school-age wind band

I'd argue that gives you a unique insight into rehearsal, but what do I know...

@julian part of my current day job involves conducting, and my (likely) future day job will be conducting focused (I’m in a military band). That said, the fella who is the other MMus student predominantly had school-age conducting experience, so it really comes down to aspirations and project proposal, maybe? My intended work is aimed at the collective responsibility for time in large ensembles (a continuation of undergrad stuff I did playing with time in small jazz settings)
@julian I’d also get to know your intended grad studies supervisor and bolster your resume through doing conducting workshops!
