For understandable reasons, we have been focusing a lot on the West, but there's a much broader signal. Many stations across the entire southern half of the U.S. are recording their highest average maximum temperatures on record so far this March.

A historic heatwave in mid-March and snow water equivalent that looks like this in Colorado... 🫠

@ZLabe I don’t really know how to relate that to water usage needs, but that looks low enough to expect reservoirs to be getting significantly lower this year

And absolutely NO ONE* cares.

@Npars01 @ZLabe

I will dutifully propagate what MMT illuminates on military spending.

Because the federal government spends money into existence, this war spending money directly into the pockets of the wealthiest people in the world, not into the pockets of families public health and science and environmental monitoring, adding to their totalitarian grip politics and the economy

An economy by for and of the extinction cult of wealth. They want to replace people with machines they control.

@ZLabe in the mean time the president is spending taxpayers money on stopping windparks.

@ZLabe

Zach, I want to ask you if you have any sense that this might be the year where heat index turns truly lethal. With the prospect that a super El Niño is in the works, does it amplify summer extremes?

I haven’t been following It’s development of late. There’s been too much news just over the crazy weather we’re having.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell We are coming out with a new tool at Climate Central this summer, which will show daily maps globally for where dangerous humid heat risk is and how much climate change contributed to it. Stay tuned for the announcement! https://www.climatecentral.org/list-signup

@ZLabe Hopefully this leads to more predictive models, instead of just post-defacto data. While increasingly accurate past effects are worthy of themselves; translating it to prescient measures is becoming more and more the priority.

Keep up the stellar work.

@ZLabe It could be worse, like if we had a global climate change.
@ZLabe This isn't a heat wave, it's a heat tsunami. 🥵

@ZLabe

Don`t worry... clean coal will change the weather.

@ZLabe The U.S. should stop measuring the outdoor temperature. If you stop measuring now, you’d have very few record temperatures, if any.
@ZLabe it's been awful in Oklahoma. Should I be considering becoming a climate change refugee earlier than I thought?
