Him: because you believe in rights for groups and I believe in individual liberty

Me: do you not understand that if everyone has the same rights that each individual would have the same rights and we would all be free?

Him: that's not how it works

Me: it really is though

Him: it isn't

Me: can you explain how you wouldn't have rights if everyone was guaranteed the same rights?

Him: if we give everyone rights then nobody will be able to rise above the pack and prosper

Me: ok so I am hearing that you think you'll have more assets and resources if you made sure that there's a permanent class of people you can exploit while you have special rights they don't get

Him: no

Me: rights for you but none for others

Him: I believe in individual liberty

Me: I believe in Liberty and Justice for all

Him: even foreigners?

Me: each and every human being

Him: that won't work

Me: why not?

Him: if everyone's the same who is in charge?

Me:

Him: no answer?

Me: so you want rights for you but not for others so you can prosper and then have someone above you who is in charge of you?

Him: yes

Me: So you want to go back to like Kings and peasants

Him: well I wouldn't be a peasant

Me: because you would have rights that peasants don't?

Him: yes

Me: so you want to live in a highly authoritarian system with an unaccountable leader and you want to make sure that rights are not universal but based on like what?

Him: if you own land

Me: do you own land?

Him: I can't afford it

Me: because you're currently unable to exploit enough people

Him: no I would earn it

Me: earn it now then

Him: I can't because of the elites

Me: oh so you can't own a house because there's currently a system where really rich people can exploit the masses without fear of any accountability and your big idea is that we burn democracy to the ground in the hopes that somehow you get to be on the top after the fires go out?

Him: yes

Me: you need therapy, this is maladaptive and unhinged, your entire thing is gross and inappropriate and I think you should leave

Him: the country?

Me: the planet

@Quenby He's really taking that no-introspection thing to an extreme!
@Quenby please tell me this is *not* based on a real conversation?

@SimonCHulse
This is a summary from notes of a real conversation.

Some quotes are truncated because he said a lot of bullshit that wasn't relevant

@Quenby If your paraphrasing is accurate, they believe freedom is only definable in relative terms. It's a belief hierarchies and scarcity are inherently virtuous, but the current hierarchy is flawed... because it places them incorrectly.

They want to be above the median of their peers, even if that means reducing the median. They see all value as an expression of scarcity. Outcomes are irrelevant.

This ideology is literally worse than that of a parasite; parasites want their host to survive.

@Quenby Just to clarify. I'm not 100% convinced this paraphrasing is correct. I'm also not convinced that even if it is they have thought this through enough to truly believe this... just that they haven't thought through the implications of their disparate beliefs.

I want this person to learn, not for them to hurt.

@theeclecticdyslexic
I think your first reply is a fair summary from various things that this person has said to me.

I think your second reply is very insightful and I continue to try to find the phrase that unlocks that for him.

I want him to realize he's full of shit.

@Quenby I don't think a singular thing will unlock this. It sounds like this is the kind of person that struggles with hypotheticals. This is statistically common for people who consistently lean right. I would carefully walk them through everyone adopting their belief system. (Human extinction). However, be prepared for this person to get upset at the hypothetical, thinking it's stupid.

You could start with the hypothetical of what would happen if they changed your mind to agree with them.

@Quenby

Seems accurate and fair reporting of situation as it stands.

@Quenby I would have turned the end "leave to a therapy appointment"

@Quenby

Follow this guy! He's able to describe the insanity.
