Thomas Leroy 🍣🐈⬛I learned that the artist behind the artwork for the game Elite was none other than Philip Castle, the designer of the posters for A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket, among others.
He passed away on February 20, 2026, at the age of 83 🙏
And honestly, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of artwork ever created for a video game 🚀 🌌 ✨
And it might just be my favorite logo! 😍

Alan Bellingham@Gamrok I was employed by Acornsoft at the point that Elite was being produced (I was actually the play tester), and we knew how good that game was by the standards of the day. Management (primarily DJD) was happy to spend on that art and on the novella (by Robert Holdstock) that was in the box. IIRC there was one copy sold for every four BBC-B micros out there, and given a lot of those were owned by schools, that was amazing market penetration
