Anyone have a recommendation for a USB capture card? The one I purchased a while ago only has mono audio, no good for game-streaming and I don't want to make the same mistake again. Thanks.
@FreakyFwoof Which one did you buy back then?
@ToniBarth Ugreen thing, very cheap, and it's fine on the visual side but a lot of these cheaper cards have mono audio which I had no idea about.
@FreakyFwoof Are you sure that it is really mono audio? I'm asking because i've got a capture card here that seems to provide mono audio at first glance, but its actually the encoding that makes it look like its mono audio to Windows, although it actually isn't. When properly added in e.g. OBS the sound comes through in stereo just fine. Its just a weird driver and Windows incompatibility issue with that one.
@ToniBarth I looked at it on Mac in the system profiler and it said under audio, that it was very specifically one channel. I know windows does the thing where it decides certain sound cards are microphones for you because it loves to handhold, and I had that with a Behringer UCA22 once, but yeah, definitely mono this time sadly.
@FreakyFwoof Sad. Well, I can only recommend the Genki Shadowcast cards. Really tiny, but powerful devices that do a great job here. Have a whole bunch of them over several generations, from v1 to v3 pro.
@FreakyFwoof I do have an executable somewhere that does fix that, as in, it captures the audio output, converts it into proper stereo and outputs it via a separate process, if OBS isn't what you want to use. Dunno if it works with your capture card, but it works with mine.
@ToniBarth I'll happily plug this into windows and test it though, would be nice if it really did do stereo.
ShadowCast 2 Pro

@ToniBarth Lovely. I'll try to find it on amazon because I have a lot of credit there and it means I won't have to spend. Thanks for that.
@FreakyFwoof Well, they don't seem to be on Amazon sadly, but maybe you are luckier. If I wasn't located in Germany, I'd happily drop you one of my spare ones, but getting things shipped to UK isn't quite as cheap anymore these days.
@ToniBarth No sadly not. Says 'Currently unavailable' but I'll look for an equivalent. I want to do switch things but not with mono... Yuck.
@FreakyFwoof I've heard alot of good things about the Elgato capture cards, they do have some external USB-based ones too.
@ToniBarth Yeah, the kind of Apple of capture cards, seems every big streamer has one.
@FreakyFwoof They were the first ones, and the only ones who, for quite some time, built BCI Express based ones back in the day when USB wasn't up to the speed necessary to capture 4K easily. Nowadays that USB-C can go up to 40 GBPS you don't need to install them into your PC anymore, so other vendors jumped on the train too, but yeah, the Elgato cards are still really good and a solid pick.
@FreakyFwoof They seem to only list the newest models on their website now, for whatever reason, if the v2 pro is to expensive, i'm sure you'll be able to find the non-pro version of v2 in other stores as well.
