It's happened, it's finally happened: I've destroyed a filesystem, the filesystem for my Nextcloud storage.

Over the years I've resized countless volumes and filesystems, never a problem, not even while reducing filesystems.

But today I obviously made some mistake somewhere, and my filesystem got corrupted. Tried several rescue operations with fsck, but no cigar... 😖

So I've lost some 60GB, on the same day that I realised I couldn't find the disk docking station I use to make backups to hard drives.

@hans That sucks.
Hope you at least got a reasonable recent backup.
@Angela Scholder My own data is safe, I also have that locally.

But a few other people use my server too, not sure if they now have a problem...

@hans That reminds me of the TransIP Stack crash when you could have a free 1000GB storage account, but with the restriction that they were not taking backups and that lost data could not be recovered.

They did have a crashed disk, and a 2nd crashed during rebuilding of the RAID.
Well, some people didn't have their own backups...

@Angela Scholder I remember that. I asked for Stack several times, but never got a reply and never got that storage.

My screw-up yesterday was on my last machine on TransIP, because of a lack of storage space... The irony 😁

@hans Ouch! Irony indeed.

We still have one account with 1250GB after quite quickly adoping a paid account after these became available.
We quit the 2nd account after the price increase as we didn't use half of the space and also as I could just share links from a NAS here.

@Angela Scholder I'm in the process of migrating away from TransIP, mostly because the prices.

I have moved all my DNS registrations to OpenProvider, which was the easy part. Now I "only" have to move said machine to our own datacenter.

But that's quite a machine, can't afford serious downtime for it...

@hans Stack has definitely gone up in price, but I didn't yet properly check for an alternative. I have one .net domain name with them, and the price for that one definitely was a surprise last time.
The rest I have with Strato, including also HiDrive space. First I had with them was 2012, but new packages and service are less than back then.

The online storage is off-site backups and live real time copies for project data.
