Hi folks! I’m trying to branch out with other socmed platforms… but I have no idea how to use mastodon 😂 any tips?

@runalyr If you wanna posts some arts but unavailable on that particular day, you can try plugging you masto to buffer or some other scheduling post and you can pick a day and time of whatever you want

You can try postybirb if they have the masto account pluggin. Sadly mastodon has no first-party scheduling (boo) but those are the ones i know will work altho postybirb you have to leave your pc on for the schedule posts to work smh

@runalyr Yeah im on mastoart however the beauty of it is that just because we're in different instances don't mean we can't interact. I had a mastodon social and mastodon art but i deleted them bc i don't like some of their rules and i heard the mod from the latter is pretty much evil

So here i am again this time in mastoart lol

@runalyr There's a great website literally called fedi.tips though that could be overwhelming.

You have to build/"curate" your home feed by following people, and until that's done it will probably seem a bit quiet. I recommend poking around different timelines and user profiles to start. If you see an interesting post, check the user's profile to see if they post/boost more fun stuff.

Always feel free to interact, even if it's just clicking the "favourite" button!

@runalyr Others will often check your profile when you fave/boost/comment on their stuff, so it's an indirect way of encouraging people to follow you.

Meanwhile, share everything that interests you! No need to stick to just one topic. I encourage using the "content warning" feature for subjects that could trigger or stress people out (politics/health/food/alcohol, as well as the usual sex/violence/etc.), because it permits virtually *everyone* to follow you even when they don't like that stuff.

I don’t mind working on my feeds slowly 🫶 are there tags / places artists frequent? I used to browse art shares on bsky to find more artists so I am wondering if there is something similar 👀

@runalyr mastoart.social and mastodon.art are both dedicated to artists/creators, so you can browse their local server timeline (aka "live feed"), for example https://mastoart.social/public/local and https://mastodon.art/public/local

Some tags are #art, #MastoArt, and #FediArt

It's kinda strange but I hardly see art shares on here! I think many artists just boost lots of other artists anyway; and every account is visible to everyone equally (no algorithmic weirdness to compete against).
