As the rest of the Internet, I applaud Afroman for sticking it to unaccountable racist cops. I am just a bit sore that trans people were made, once again, the butt of the joke in the process.

It just means Afroman is okay with portraying antitrans rhetoric, cementing his place as an out-of-touch old person. I agree that being insensitive about the officers as individuals is a dick move and not acceptable, as it harms how easily future generations can wipe the toxicity out of society, and it would’ve been more appropriate to keep the focus on the real issue, which was abuse of authority by the force as a collective. Who knows which officers were responsible for the assault or the vandalism. But I’ll be honest –
I think verbal abuse by a disgruntled victim, even widespread abuse that can influence thousands, is nothing compared to the physical attack and complete disregard of how terrifying it is for your home to be invaded by an aggressive group of self-righteous strangers. Dude’s black and living in the USA, so the chance he gets murdered in his own home despite being innocent is also incredibly high. His existence was threatened, and that is a far worse crime than continuing to promote a harmful rhetoric about women who look more masc than the socially defined ideal standard.

These two things are on the same side of the scale really (systemic oppression).

The same is true for trans women. Very high chance of getting murdered especially when black.

We talk about very well defined anti-trans genocidal tropes here, WTF are you babbling about, watering it down like this?
not that I particularly doubt this is true, but I can’t find a source stating this (I did find a source stating that in the 2024 election Afroman ran as a candidate and didn’t support Trump, though)
I did see that he’s a Christian, so it wouldn’t be surprising to learn other reactionary views are harbored by him

But around the same time, Afroman confused fans with comments about possibly performing at Trump rallies. In an interview, he said he might perform his song ‘Hunter Got High’ at such events, suggesting it could help revive his career. Even though he did not explicitly endorse Trump, the idea of performing at rallies blurred the line for many supporters. It seemingly created the impression that he was at least open to aligning himself with Trump’s audience.
not the best source, but sure - even though Afroman explicitly said he doesn’t endorse Trump, he’s clearly open to the idea of hitching his wagon to Trump’s grift to boost his career ✅
I think it’s more relevant to me personally that he’s a Christian and that he’s making transphobic remarks - that’s enough information without pinning this all on weak and unsubstantiated claims that he’s a Trump supporter
At most I think it’s fair to say Afroman is willing to be associated with Trump and there is overlap between his target demographic and Trump’s.
Yes, Afroman ran as a right-wing Libertarian candidate for the US presidency in 2024. Trump is a rival for Afroman (since Trump is also interested in getting those same votes, he also tries to pick up the right-wing Libertarian vote). Afroman wants to draw some of the same voters (and attract the same audience in terms of his business interests).
This is not like friends who become apolitical and then eventually Republican - this is a guy who is already Republican-adjacent and demonstrates plenty of right-wing commitments.
My point is that based on a single photo of Afroman with Trump, people on Lemmy are now claiming Afroman is a Trumper, but given the facts we have, we can’t really support that claim (as far as I am aware, at least - still wonder if he might eventually get on the Trump train).
That doesn’t mean Afroman isn’t a reactionary piece of shit who supports the very political culture that has victimized him.
Look, I try not to judge people, but… Come on. Show any comedian a clip of that cop talking and that’s gonna be the joke. It’s not just that her voice is low, she literally talks like a dude.
His songs were blatantly trying to piss them off. Of course he would go for the obvious joke. He’s not the kind of rapper that writes about systemic injustice, he raps about pussy and weed. Like, that’s it.
Also, the part of the song that suggests she might be trans:
Man or a woman You really don’t know her (You really don’t know) I noticed her voice Is a Few octaves lower (Few octaves low) She’s not too ugly She’s not too fine, but she (She’s not too fine) Might whoop out somethin’ Somethin’ that’s bigger than mine
That’s a direct reference to his 2001 song Crazy Rap, more commonly known as Colt 45:
I met this lady in Hollywood She had green hair, but damn she looked good I took her to my house because she was fine But she whooped out a dick that was bigger than mine
Considering the homo/trans phobia in a lot of rap at that time, I’d basically consider that pro-trans. He even used the right pronouns!
Well known trope. All over 1990s comedy and what have you.
So this argument boils down to what? Was she really trans she would deserve to be mocked? Are we censoring ourselves with real trans people out of superficial courtesy but bash cisgender women for “looking” or “sounding” trans. Nothing problematic with that! /s

Questionable take. So would racist jokes, being “relatively better” than lynchings, be “pro-black for the time”? I don’t think so.
May everyone eventually get to have or be with their preferred person who has their preferred penis or vagina. May all of us find a toilet when we need to go!
