All my #MARCHintosh projects this year have been developed exclusively using this guy here, the iMac "puck mouse”. Countless hours put on it

This guy has seen a lot of vitriol over the years and been berated for being "a terrible design" but honestly it's worked absolutely perfectly for me this year. Not a single problem or misgrip. It started slipping a bit once, but a quick clean of the rollers and it has tracked true ever since

I do not understand the haters!

#VintageApple #RetroComputing.

I have like three Apple optical mice (a mix of Pro mouse and Mighty mouse) from various sources and they all track TERRIBLY. Like, keep skipping or stalling. Even on a mouse pad, so it's not the surface. I'm not sure if age has affected them or they were always this bad but this ball mouse works better than all of them.

@kalleboo Yeah, I never really got the hate for it. You can see the wire. That's up. It has wings, you can feel them without looking.

I do prefer a big gamer mouse, but I used the puck for quite a while.

@kalleboo I never really had an issue either. I think the original one didn’t have the little groove in the button, so was easy and frustrating to grab and start moving in the wrong direction, but it wasn’t long before they added the groove and it became a-okay!
@billgoats @kalleboo I remember an old college of mine used a dremel to make a, let’s call it ”well defined”, button groove on one of the earlier ones :)
@danieltufvesson @kalleboo Eep! He’s not from Texas and has a YouTube channel, is he? 😜
@kalleboo is that mouse pad still for sale somewhere?
@cakemix I cheated and just converted the PICT to a PNG that I sent to some random site thst came up for a web search for "print your own mouse pad" 😅
@kalleboo To me, and that it was on the Mac 2 launch screen in so many screenshots is SO iconic to me.
@cakemix Is definitely one of those images cemented in my brain!
@kalleboo
I just could not get a close shave with it compared to the NeXT ADB mouse, regardless of flavor. Lime stung to boot. 🍋‍🟩🪒😫
@kalleboo as my kids would say … that’s diabolical
@kalleboo It definitely still has its fans. A graphic designer at one of my first jobs was a die hard puck mouse user. And the conductor of the Philip Glass Ensemble, a big tech head, also uses one! https://chaos.social/@polpo/115993891652245764
@kalleboo i also always thought it was fine (the later indented version, at least). but i did have smaller hands back then. would be fun to try it again
@kalleboo I never had a problem with it either. But I’m more interested in the mouse pad! I remember I had that image in a file somewhere but never really knew where it came from. It looked so modern! Do you know its origins?
@arroz They were some 3D renders Apple did on their Cray machine to use in publicity shots for the Macintosh II release to show off their color display support https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macintosh-ii-promo-graphics-cray-renders
