Jean-François Mezei@mWare BTW, spent much time in Barrie in recent days , accoridng to Google. Youtube presented me with some daycare ads for some outfit in Barrie etc. Have you been there lately? Tonight, Youtube thinks I am back in Ottawa.
@jfmezei most geolocation is based on Class-Cs, and we're not big enough to warrant that for our PPPoE customers... yet.
Also Google et al. may use varying indicators for the location signals; maybe a single Android user on WiFi could shift the entire notion... or whatever. Somethings may go off Whois too, or something normalized from one of those addresses....
IP-based geoloc isn't exactly an exact, nor accurate science.
@mWare Yeah I know geolocation isn't exact, but I figured you were at the Barrie child care all week, hence my ads were geolocated there 😉 With all the cookies I am given (have belly to prove it), I would assume Mr Google has better knowledge of my location than just IP geolocation. It does feed me many ads in French, including Govt of Ontario ads.
