Actual RetroComputing Question:

I want to re-create my first 386SX system now that I found so many floppies.

What virtualization SW do you think is best for this project?

#RetroComputing #DOS #386SX

VirtualBox
VirtManager/LibVirt
DOSBox

@c64whiz 86box or PCem aren't technically VMs, but you don't need much oomph to emulate a 386sx and they give you a lot more flexibility with hardware (letting you pick a video card and sound card to emulate, for example), which is kinda vital for projects like this.

@c64whiz 86Box if you want accuracy - not just in terms of emulation but the entire hassle like config.sys tweaking and what not

DOSBox if you want it easy and just want to experience old DOS, old Games and Win 3.1 with great sound card support and good graphics scaling options + USB joystick support

@c64whiz I highly recommend 86Box for the flexibility and accuracy it provides for emulating a full OS environment for older systems.
@c64whiz 86box is your best bet for that era
@c64whiz 86box is what you want for recreating a 386 system.
@c64whiz real HW not an option?

(QEMU is my primary suggestion, so i guess libvirt is related to that?)
(that or bochs or 86box/pcem, not used 86box/pcem but I have a feeling it'd be a good match)
