Different lexical borders in French and English… (corrections/clarifications welcome)

hibou = owl
chouette = owl
crow = corbeau
raven = corbeau

(And don’t get me started on deer: I still haven’t worked them out!)

@peterwyrm @headword Also:

corbeau = crow
corneille = crow

And if I’m not mistaken:

grand corbeau = raven

@benjamingeer @peterwyrm @headword

as a French, I had learnt

crow = corneille
raven = corbeau (often larger yes)

But not sure

@joy70 @peterwyrm @headword That’s what I thought, too, but I’ve just checked the Oxford and Collins French-English dictionaries and they both translate “corbeau” and “corneille” as “crow”. The Oxford translates “raven” as “grand corbeau” and the Collins just translates it as “corbeau”. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@benjamingeer thanks for checking 🙏;)
