Seems like a pretty good reason to raise a glass, really.
I'm also seeing the flip side of Bluesky, let's call it "CisSky," which is singing accolades over Murray's years of contributions as a feminist.
I'm reminded of how many Boomer/second wave feminists pushed through the misogyny and patriarchal bullshit to reach a higher place of status and power, and then pull up the ladder behind them as they shit on marginalized people struggling further down the hierarchical pyramid.
She sounds like a real (sad, regrettable) testament to her generation.
Long ago, I lost count of the number of cis feminists of her generation who turned out to be horrible bigots about a range of issues. So many transphobes, Islamophobes, racists, xenophobes, etc.
It's hard to separate the advances for (some) women which they helped push forward, in the face of the horrors which they also upheld.
Trying to find gemstones among the shit is an unsavory task on any day.
Her claim to widespread infamy, by what I'm reading, was an editorial from the latter 2010s in which she exclaimed how trans women are not real women and have no right to claim ourselves as such. She painted a number of stereotyped caricatures of trans women in her foul manifesto of bigotry that I'm well familiar with from the pens and mouths of so many cis feminists of her generation.
I read part of that editorial a few moments ago. I won't link to it.
But if you've read other TERF hate essays, hers was little different from the others.
I've learned from cis women of her generation that bigots can and do pull the mantle of a liberatory movement around themselves as an ass-cover for their pet forms of bigotry and hatred.
I have seen my fair share of feminists use feminism as cover for their bigotry against other marginalized groups.
People are people. Every group has its fair share of scoundrels.
It appears that she left a wake of destruction behind her, as bigots in places of power do.
