We cannot let companies push face recognition into our glasses, and as a user, you should make your voice clear that this is not something you want. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/03/think-twice-buying-or-using-metas-ray-bans
Think Twice Before Buying or Using Meta’s Ray-Bans

Over the last decade or so, the tech industry has tried, and mostly failed, to make “smart glasses”—tech-infused glasses with cameras, AI, maps, displays, and more—a thing. But over the past year, products like Meta’s Ray-Ban Display Glasses and Oakley’s Meta Glasses have gone from a curious niche...

Electronic Frontier Foundation
@eff ... and be prepared to have strangers spray-paint your face.
@eff are we free to punch morons who buys and wear these or expecting privacy in public doesn't allow that, so instead if you see anyone wearing one pull out your phones are record them and maybe a crowd following them while recording might shame them to stop wearing them?

@htpcnz @eff

I want a sticker for my face that loads malware, erases all their on-board and remote cloud data, then bricks their glasses.

Come on, techies. I know you can do it.

@eff

don't even think about it once. instead think about leaving those fascist appeasing, data collecting, oligarchic meta apps

join #pixelfed instead of insta
#mastodon instead of threads
signal or some privacy respecting app instead of whatsapp

I still think we need to plan a day for a mass exodus from facebook to friendica so all of the good💙 people will be able to find each other again, w/o losing touch. leave the maga fascists on fb

@eff I will not think twice about it. The answer was pretty obvious at the outset. I will abso-freakingly-lutely not be strapping a Meta-controlled camera to my face. 🙃
@eff Where are we at with open source alternatives? I want the functionality, but without the 3rd party cloud service
@eff The issue is not with me having or not having these dumb "smart" glasses that record everything for the big data hoarding corporations, the issue is all the idiots buying this shit and then recording all of us whether we consent to this shit or not. Now THAT is the real issue with all these "smart" glasses. I already know I'll never buy this crap from Meta or Google, what I don't know is who all is going to wear them and record us with them.
@eff Or... and hear me out... OR, Just don't buy them at all. How about just don't give Mark Suckerborg any more data.
@eff I just went to the optometrist and explicitly avoided Ray-Bans brand and any thick framed glasses that could appear to house a camera. I don't want people to think I'm a perv.
