To all the “em-dashes are an obvious sign of AI” people, here’s me writing in 1986 for my high school computer magazine.

Yes, I’ve been using em dashes since I was a teenager.

AI my ass.

(Alas I wasn’t on the typography team or that would’ve been a closed up, single character em-dash.)

@justkwin Heh. I was only five years removed from my West Indian—and therefore British—education, and years before i read “The Mac is not a typewriter,” so it’s plausible!

But! Doesn’t Oxford Style Manual prefer the (closed) em dash or the (open) en dash, but not the (open) em dash?
