Not only are hit pieces from fash people boosted that want to harass FOSS maintainers, it's also hit pieces by shitcoiners.

I rest my case.

though to be fair, I also don't like how aggressively places are shutting down issues/MRs to discuss those things constructively and I was wondering if we should just open up a heavily moderated space where people can voice their opinions, because I also get people being frustrated for getting told "this isn't the right place" everywhere...

like I'm a bit concerned that locking everything does more harm than good.

anyway.. if you want FOSS people who rely on their work on FOSS to earn money and survive to fight this as well, maybe start a fundraiser so we have enough money to fight the legal battles over this.

If you want a constructive conversation around this, you need to eliminate the fears and worries people have first.

I'm sure the maintainers would be much more open to fight this, if they also have a war chest with $500M in it to pay lawyers and fines.

and I want to be clear here: your alternative of not complying also means "haha get rekt sucker and starve" so what's your response to this?

Like genuinely, what's a viable alternative people have here whose income relies on all of this.

Sure I could be a purist and say "yeah man this all sucks, don't do it!" but that also means throwing marginalized people under the bus who are now left on their own.

And complying could also mean the same.

but also "why does this have to be rushed?" you clearly never had to ship a product. Having less than a year is _not much time_. It's very little time. And I fully understand why people want at least bits and pieces in place, so they won't have to risk "yeah well.. can't ship shit for a year, because I waited until December"

healthy community: "okay this situation sucks, let's create a fund raiser and collect money to fight this and cover for fines people have to pay!"

unhealthy community: "you are all assholes for not wanting people to starve!"

@karolherbst OK, I'm in. Who will set up the fundraiser though? I can donate some money, but setting up an effective fundraiser isn't a skill I have.
