One of my favorite Cannibal Corpse records, 'Kill' was released 20 years ago today (March 20, 2006). ๐Ÿ”ฅ

It was actually my favorite album of 2006, as I discovered as I made my 'favorite album every year I've been alive' list (https://record.club/jake4480/lists/one-album-for-every-year-ive-been-alive).

@jake4480 Decided to steal this idea as a way of getting myself to re-listen & re-evaluate a lot of music (and actually sort them by year).

I don't have to start quite as far back as you (ha!), but starting with 1985 I've only got to 87 so far and I keep having to go back when I add years to things.

@Vyothric yes!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ it's pretty damn interesting. Did you read my brief writeup on the process and my findings (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2026/03/13/one-album-from-every-year-ive-been-alive)?

Some years were very strange ๐Ÿ˜‚ but wild to see.

One album from every year Iโ€™ve been alive

Damn, but I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever been so glad to be done with a project. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Recently, Tom over on Mastodon published his list for an album every year heโ€™s been alive over on his rโ€ฆ

@jake4480 I think I'm having the opposite problem - too many choices from the 80's & 90's - been making top tens for each year and can't believe how far down some of them are already. I'm not sure I have anything at all from the past 5 years. - I just don't keep up with anything anymore. I'll have to look up some new stuff when I get that far.
@Vyothric I did have weird issues starting in the 2000s and 2010s, both a mix of a lot and not a lot I'd heard. Luckily an artist or two came through - there were definitely a bunch to consider in the 80s and 90s too, a couple years were tough to choose because I liked too many.
@jake4480 I'm still only 15 out of 47 albums into 1987.

@Vyothric 87! And wow 47 total? I should've kept more of the ones I narrowed down, I tended to delete to figure out one. What's that list look like for you??

My 87 top of course was Door to Door, the Cars, I mean I listen to that so much, still ๐Ÿ˜‚

Locust Abortion Technician (Butthole Surfers) was big for me, for that year, too. And Jesus and Mary Chain's Darklands. Very close call. But I listen to the Cars more. Plus, lots of albums that year you're right.. Wow. Pixies. Sonic Youth.

Oh and that Tom Petty record Let Me Up from 87 I hadn't even heard.. Been listening to a lot of that lately, now.

I bet your list has Anthrax right.. Exodus?

@jake4480 I've actually never been a big fan of Anthrax and I've haven't got as far as E yet!

So far it's a bit of a step-down from 86 which had loads of albums I liked and looking ahead I don't see that changing. Just a lot to get through.

Top 2 so far are Attomica - Attomica and Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence which is way better than I remember - I think I was more familiar with the later albums which maybe I didn't like.

@jake4480 I've at least got everything sorted by year now though and deleted quite a lot of stuff (after looking into the bands a bit more, which is turning out to be a huge problem).
@Vyothric ha! There were definitely bands I ended up looking through, I learned a lot, there was so much I didn't know even after digging before. Wild.
@Vyothric I can do like, SOME Anthrax, a little. I can do so little thrash. I like that you and I prefer a lot of the cavernous death, which is really most of the metal I do. I barely like any black either ๐Ÿ˜‚ most people are more into black, or thrash, or stuff like Neurosis or Opeth or stuff, I don't do it ๐Ÿ˜‚

@jake4480 I like a lot of Thrash, just not Anthrax or that kind of sound. I like Kreator, Protector, Exumer, Demolition Hammer...etc. and only the old stuff.

I remember someone I used to talk to on Lycos Chat (those were the days) was big into Opeth. Never got into them (bored me to death honestly).

@Vyothric yeah, I guess I like some blackened thrash like Skeletonwitch. They definitely have thrash in there, even though it's a lot of death too.
