Ugh, I guess the snapper version I tried to restore didn't actually revert the bad changes I made. Despite following instructions, so that was neat.

I will have to accept the fact that I did an oopsie which cannot be recovered; thankfully, I simply reinstalled openSUSE Tumbleweed.

However, apparently, I lost all my pictures despite saving them on a different drive. That's weird and makes me upset. All my documents, music, and videos are alive and kicking at least. Big sad, but I'll live.

Out of the box, Snapper doesn't make a snapshot of anything under /home. To recover photos you can try Photorec though:

https://photorec.cc/

(Also in the repo, at least on Leap 16).

PhotoRec – Free Download | File & Photo Recovery

Free download PhotoRec: recover lost photos, videos, and files from damaged or formatted drives. Open-source for Windows, macOS & Linux.

@rohare I clarified my post to indicate that I put my photos on a different drive...After reinstalling openSUSE Tumbleweed, I plugged in the drive and found the photos didn't even save. All my other backed up goodies did. Which was rather strange, I didn't even find any photo files on the external to recover.

The problem I had with snapper is that it didn't work as I expected: Restoring packages to my main image, that I removed, which caused me to not be able to boot. That is user error on my part.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds Ah, I see. So the photos were never on the drive to begin with, and there is therefore nothing to recover?

That's an annoying problem to have.

@rohare Indeed, and they would've been overwritten already on my current machine I believe...Since I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed again. It's an oh bother moment; I won't be too upset by this, as that won't change a thing.
