For those of you who think that Apple accessories are far too cheap, Hermès has you covered:

I rather loathe Hermès, I must confess. Years ago I used to work next door to one of their shops, one of those rare cases where I felt that an actual building was sneering at me. The staff had two visible expressions, obsequious and condescendingly dismissive, deployed according to the perceived wealth of their customers.

Paddock Duo charger and Grand Paddock case

Paddock Duo charger with its Grand Paddock case, in Gold Swift calfskin. The Duo charger features two MagSafe zones, allowing fast and simultaneous wireless charging of two devices. Paddock chargers require a minimum power of 20W, provided either via a USB-C port or with a wall adapter (not included).

@BigJackBrass Their target customers are people who wouldn't want the thing if everyone could have one.
@RogerBW I've never really understood the "I paid far more for this, therefore I am Better" crowd.
@BigJackBrass I assume most of it is resource signalling (like a peacock's fan, I have so much food I can afford to spend metabolic energy on this pointless thing) slightly reconfigured to run on a monkey brain that believes itself to be conscious.

@RogerBW @BigJackBrass The only plus I can see to this sort of ridiculousness is: it gets rich people to hand money back into the economy, rather than hoarding it.

But, you know, enforcing taxes would do this a lot better.

@DarkestKale @BigJackBrass Or even endowing libraries, unversities, etc., which has gone out of fashion along with the idea that improving everyone's lot was a good thing.
@RogerBW @DarkestKale It may have been (literally) patronising in many cases, but I'd rather see more people like Cadbury and Salt in the world than Musk and Zuckerberg.

@BigJackBrass @RogerBW @DarkestKale
Patronizing or condescending.

While on a layover once I popped into the Louis Vuitton flagship store on Champs Elysées to see if I could find a small trinket for my wife. Even the coin purses were >€200. I asked the young lady if there was anything more affordable.

"Monsieur. C'est Louis Vuitton."

Then she broke eye contact to look past me for someone less poor. 😅

@DenOfEarth @RogerBW @DarkestKale It's hypocritical of me, since I'm in favour of protections for designs and creative works, but I rather like the large scale counterfeiting of "luxury" brands, spreading their style across council estates and discount shoppers everywhere. Then again, I don't understand why anyone would actually want those, either.
@BigJackBrass @RogerBW @DarkestKale
The irony is that there are so many counterfeit LV bags that anyone with a real one has lost that exclusivity factor.
@DenOfEarth @RogerBW @DarkestKale Burberry had a small public meltdown over the wrong sort of people wearing its check a few years ago, I recall.
@BigJackBrass @DenOfEarth @RogerBW @DarkestKale Ah yes, the Chav Panic. I recall having been rather amused.
@BaronessWinter @DenOfEarth @RogerBW @DarkestKale "Oh my! Won't somebody think of the wealthy?"
