@chris I agreed on this 10 years ago already. And migrated to markdown using Hugo. And never looked back.
@melroy It was a bit before then that I got pretty disillusioned with WP, but I was still reliant on it for work. It took until 2024 for me to finally get away from it completely for my living and now my own sites are on Hugo as well.

@chris That is crappy but there is a difference between WordPress.com the centrally controlled platform and the self installed version where you get to decide what it does.

Also the articles link to the 39% does not go anywhere that specifies this.

@chris back in 2017 Automattic was trying to create a social media feed like what Substack became, where you subscribed on Automattic and checked Automattic for the latest posts.
