At a time when it can feel like the bar for men’s behaviour is in hell, I want to share some lovely stories of how men have shown up for me recently…
1. I told my partner I have been missing macaroni cheese since M&S stopped making theirs. Last night he made me vegan mac and cheese from scratch, unprompted.
2. Another one of my partners saved me from a failed bench press attempt at the gym yesterday. I didn’t realise he’d been keeping an eye on me from across the gym and ran to my rescue when he saw me struggling.
3. My incredible friend @JMSeaborn came over to watch a movie and when I mentioned I’d been having problems with Netflix and Prime he spent an hour researching the issue and fixing it for me.
4. A man I’ve casually dated on and off for 20 years from my industry knows I’m finding the job search really difficult right now. He reached out to me about an opportunity he’d heard about in passing, gave me the details for his contact and put in a good word for me.
5. Lastly, I mentioned to my ex husband I’ve had some ongoing injuries I’m trying to sort out. Without thinking twice, he got me on a video call so he could show me some physio exercises he’s been using for the same problem.
These are good men and this is healthy masculinity. These are men who understand how to make women feel safe, seen and heard. I’m so proud to have so many of these men in my life.
