@notyourfanboy We just had this debate with another person. The tl;Dr is:
1. I agree. Fuck Substack. But.
2. We have to use a lot of platforms we hate by companies we hate because, as a news organization, we have to be available where our local readers and viewers tell us they are.
It's not like a product I'm marketing where I can pull people to me.
With news specifically you have an obligation to make yourself as available as possible to reach as many as possible to inform them.
