@Heliograph In my 30 years living and working there, probably the car-clogged roads were the foulest; the Cooks River during the many great plastic migrations. A uni friend grew up in the poshest eastern suburbs, and her mum called north shore residents the "would-bes if they could-bes". So ALL of them, east and north. Also the heat island sprawl of McMansions. The second airport, one is bad enough.
