What are the thick black lines at the left and bottom? A window frame? Since the other sides don't have that, plus the big empty space, it gives the feeling of not being confined. Your eyes could go up and to the right if they wanted.
They don't, because the gravity of the image is at the bottom.
You've also got the pipe and its shadow pointing down and to the right, which tugs the eyes down. Then they hit the black line and stop (or slide out of the right edge.)
