I don’t really care to find the study but we actually do know the Viking invasion of Scotland resulted in a genocide of the Picts that were living in the Hebrides.

There’s argument about whether the Vikings are entirely responsible for the destruction of larger Pictish culture but the proof is pretty undeniable that it happened in the Hebrides.
