How does the anticonsumption philosophy reaches the mainstream media? - Lemmy.World

I wonder how medias like movies shows anti consumerism ideias while being made by mostly pro-consumerist people behind the scenes. For example Fight Club movie has mentions like this: >We buy things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t like. While very likely, all the production, writer and actors live a life full of luxury and expensive suff, and despite they being aware about this they keep doing it. How is it possible? Are people just hypocrites or just trying to capitalize on anti consumption mindset? What’s happening here?

Chuck Palahniuk thinks these things, not Brad Pitt. It’s called acting. It was a popular book so it was made into a movie, simple as that.
