I didn't realize that Hetzner had expanded to the US. And their prices are WAAAAYYY cheaper than Linode’s now.

(Turns out that charging 20% higher prices for the same resources over ~5 years in the web-hosting business makes you pretty easy to beat.)

Seriously looking at Hetzner now. Any experiences running medium-scale applications there, like maybe 20 server instances with ~a terabyte of databases?

Long-term reliability?

@marcoarment Not a recommendation but I recently moved my services off VPS hosts by buying old servers from ebay and renting rack space at a local data center. It was way more work than I thought it would be but I like it. I rent a quarter rack for $250/month vs $500/month for VPS. The servers will pay for themselves in about 10 months. I’m not geographically diverse or anything and so many more issues are now my job to fix but it has felt good so far.
@marcoarment loved listening to your co-location story. It’s hard but fun!
