Does anyone either know a linux app or a selfhosted solution for saving short videos where I can take notes next to them? If it also can handle images even better but not a must have. Right now I'm throwing the stuff in my Obsidian vault, but it gets too big over time.

On the desktop, it's easy:

You can use e.g. Gwenview, which is an image viewer, but also displays videos.

You can annotate any file in the info tab in the "description" field.

It stores the information not in a database, but in the "extended file attributes".

When I save images or Clips, I save the image/video descriptions (alt texts) there, so I can use them when I want to post them here.

@mina thank you! Wasn't sure which image viewers support video and still not sure if the description field of the metadata will suffice in the long run, but I will try this to see if it works for me!
