Does anyone ever respond to anyone? Is their more communication between people?

Scrolling down at least the local timeline do I see alotta people posting stuff, But barely anyone ever responds to anything at all. Is this normal on the fediverse as a whole?

Im kinda on here on and off and everytime I come back it sorta feels like everyone is in their own little bubble and no one seems to reply or talk to others. Im not very aware of the culture of the fediverse at large but I am aware that its significantly smaller than say twitter and usually hosts more free open minded people on it due to the way decentralized nature of the fediverse as a while. Looking for some insight from people who are much more active than me and who are more "in the know" of the fediverse culture in general.
